About this course

Simultaneous Optimisation (SIMO) finds a higher NPV by optimising the schedule, cut-off grade, stockpiles and blend at the same time instead of one after the other. This course starts with the economics behind it (discounting, NPV and how Whittle treats costs) and the conditions where SIMO adds most value. You then add SIMO nodes under a bulk blend scenario, an extractive blend scenario and an operational scenario, compare each against its parent node's NPV, read the schedule reports, export mining sequences and examine how the NPV and mill feed grades are built up.

What you'll learn
  • Explain discounting, NPV and how costs, period variation and initial capital are handled
  • Describe how SIMO optimises schedule, cut-off, stockpiles and blend, and when it helps
  • Set up and run SIMO under bulk blend, extractive blend and operational scenarios
  • Interpret schedule results, mining sequences, NPV build-up and mill feed grades
  • Compare SIMO results like-for-like against conventional scenarios
