About this course

This course is designed for new users with little or no prior experience of Surpac, the geology and mine planning software used across open pit and underground operations in more than 110 countries. You'll learn how to set up your working environment and find your way confidently around the Surpac interface, the Navigator, Graphics window, Layers and Properties panes, and the built-in help system. From there, the course covers the fundamentals of Surpac data: strings and their structure, planes and viewing modes, and the tools used to view, select, edit, move, and save data in 3D. You'll then put those fundamentals to work. Through hands-on exercises you'll create a simple pit design, organise your work using layers and workspaces, build and validate triangulated surfaces (DTMs) and solid models, and calculate cut-and-fill and solid volumes. The course also introduces Surpac's file tools for transforming, clipping, classifying, and analysing data, and closes with a tour of the wider system, drillhole databases and sections, block model display and reporting, and plan production using Autoplot. The course finishes with advanced interface operations, showing you how to customise menus, toolbars, and profiles so Surpac fits the way you and your team actually work. Suitable for geologists, surveyors, and mining engineers new to Surpac. No prior Surpac experience required.
