About this course

A practical geostatistics course that follows the workflow of a real resource estimate. You start with domaining and exploratory data analysis on a 2D grade control data set, deal with outliers, and learn how variograms describe spatial continuity and anisotropy. You then run and compare inverse distance and ordinary kriging, validate the models, and move on to indicator kriging and sequential Gaussian simulation. The final day is a full 3D ore reserve case study, from composites to a validated kriged block model and a block size analysis.

What you'll learn
  • Define domains and run exploratory data analysis: histograms, log-probability plots, declustering, swath and grade-tonnage plots
  • Choose and apply top-cuts using several methods
  • Calculate, model and interpret experimental variograms and variogram maps, and derive anisotropy ellipsoids
  • Estimate with inverse distance, ordinary kriging, indicator kriging and SGSIM, and understand each parameter's effect
  • Validate estimates and use kriging efficiency and slope of regression to choose a block size
