About this course

This course introduces TALPAC 3D, a 3D simulation tool used to evaluate the efficiency, productivity, and economics of truck and loader haulage operations. You'll learn to navigate the TALPAC 3D interface, build a mine simulation model from the ground up, and configure both the 3D Network Analysis and Haul Route Analysis workflows. The course covers setting up features, materials, road networks, sources, and destinations, as well as configuring loading, load-and-haul, and load-and-carry equipment using the built-in Equipment Library. You'll explore key tools including the Fleet Planner for productivity forecasting, Cycle Time Analysis for route comparison, and Effective Working Time calculations for shift and availability planning. By the end of the course, you'll be able to run simulations, analyze results, and configure "what-if" scenarios to reduce risk, minimize haulage costs, and optimize fleet performance.

What you'll learn
  • Successfully navigate the TALPAC 3D interface, including the Build tab, Navigator, Ribbon, Properties panel, and 3D View
  • Import and customize features such as topography, infrastructure, and ore bodies
  • Create and configure site-specific materials, including bank density, excavatability, swell factors, and loader bucket fill factor
  • Import, draw, and edit road networks, including nodes, road segments, legends, and cutting planes
  • Add and configure sources and destinations for material movement
  • Add loading units, load-and-haul units, and load-and-carry units from the Equipment Library
  • Use the Fleet Planner to estimate productivity across different fleet scenarios
  • Perform Cycle Time Analysis to compare travel options between two points
  • Build and edit haul routes manually, from a 3D network, or by importing GPX files
  • Configure Effective Working Time, including shifts, delays, and equipment availability
  • Configure equipment costing, energy source (diesel, battery, or hybrid), and distribution data
  • Review pass matching and loading times between loading units and haulage units
  • Run simulations, analyze results, and configure "what-if" scenarios to optimize haulage performance
