About this course

This course introduces SHOTPlus, Orica Mining Services' blast design and timing software, used to design blasts in three-dimensional space with both traditional Exel pyrotechnic delays and Orica's i-kon and UNITronic electronic blasting systems. You'll learn to navigate the interface and work confidently in the 3D environment, configure program settings and blast properties, and build blast patterns using the hole, row, and pattern tools. The course covers in-hole loading in detail, including deck management, initiator placement, variable decks, and cord tracing. From there, you'll work through both initiation methods: pyrotechnic surface tie-ups using the tie tool, dummy holes, and lead-ins; and electronic initiation using manual timing tools, automated contour and burn lines, opening points, and logger assignment. You'll also learn to validate designs using the built-in calculation windows, generate quantity reports, import and export data in text and DXF formats, and automate loading with rule-based schemes.

What you'll learn
  • Navigate the SHOTPlus interface, including the main menu, toolbar, quick access panels, edit window, and status bar
  • Work in the 3D environment using layers, the Layer and Visibility managers, mouse techniques, and keyboard shortcuts
  • Distinguish global Program Settings from Blast Properties and configure each appropriately
  • Define blasthole type defaults through Design Data and limit product lists using Resource Availability
  • Create, save, and reuse blasting, loading, import, and export templates
  • Build blast patterns using the hole, row, and pattern tools, and relabel holes and rows
  • Construct in-hole loading schemes with explosive decks, initiators, variable decks, and cord tracing
  • Complete pyrotechnic surface tie-ups using collar-to-collar, multiple blasthole, and automatic tie-up methods
  • Apply lead-ins, dummy holes, and in-hole delay detonators to a pyrotechnic design
  • Assign EBS timing manually using the set and row set tools
  • Apply automated EBS timing using contour lines, burn lines, and the opening point tool
  • Adjust, deprogram, and manage EBS timing, including interval adjustment for vibration control
  • Assign loggers, connect blastholes with harness wire, and produce EBS firing summaries and field reports
  • Use material boundary polygons to achieve differential timing for ore dilution control
  • Validate designs using Visualise Timing, Angle of Initiation, First Movement, Burden Relief, Time Envelope, and Quantities
  • Import and export blast data in text and DXF formats
  • Create, test, and apply rule-based automatic loading schemes
